HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Course Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.  You will learn how to confidently perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that may be required in any of the below situations, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and accurately handover vital details of the incident to emergency response personnel.

 

Please note: Current industry standards state the CPR component is to be updated every 12 months.

Prerequisite: Essential

There are no pre-requisites for this unit/program. However, Lead Institute requires all students to have an LLN level of year 9 (ACSF Level 1), + basic computer skills (for the online learning and knowledge assessment portion of the program), plys have the ‘Physical Attributes’ to perform CPR on a manikin on the floor. If the student is completing the ‘Accelerated CPR’ program, they will be required to produce their SOA for the CPR unit completed previously.

Study Load

This course is delivered within a blended delivery/style, consisting of:

Online – approximately 4 hours of self paced study including formative assessment (via student portal) which consists of videos, quizzes and interactivity, scenarios, questions, and additional resources before the course.

Face to face – approximately 2 hours theory delivery + practical demonstration in a classroom simulated environment setting.

Target Group

Lead Institute has designed this qualification for two cohorts:

  • Full program – people looking at completing the program for the first time
  • Accelerated program – Current workers who are completing this as a refresher program, predominately from the CHC Education sector.

  • Facemark
  • Wear comfortable footwear and suitable clothing
  • You are also encouraged to bring a towel or workout mat as you will be performing CPR on the floor.

Enrolment Requirements

Students must be minimum 18 years of age. Prior to enrolment:
  • You are required to complete 2 to 4 hours of pre-course theory. It is a requirement that this be completed prior to attending the half-day workshop.
  • Students must have the physical ability to provide resuscitation by kneeling on the floor and performing two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR.
